Designing Your Home Extension with Bi-Fold Doors
House extensions are a popular type of home improvement in the UK as they can transform the size and look of a property. Creating more space is always at the centre of any design project and here at Lite Haus UK we know the importance of utilising the space you have. We have installed our Schuco Bi-Fold Doors at many properties around the West Midlands bringing the perfect finishing touch to a home's new look. But a home extension is a project that needs to be taken on with care, so let's take a look into why extensions are so popular and areas that you should consider.
What are the benefits on an extension?
Property extensions can generate more space. Extensions with bifold doors are a popular choice for families who need more space and don’t want to move house. Building an extra room or expanding the kitchen or living room is a smart solution that gives you control of designing the space you need. Extensions are a savvy investment. The additional space will increase your home’s square footage which should in turn increase your property's value. Even more, you could save money in the long run with this type of investment compared to the costs of moving house. Extensions let more natural light into your home. Large windows and sliding doors are the perfect companion for kitchen extensions as they maximise natural light. A wide design opens up the view to the exterior surroundings helping to increase the illusion of space. Contemporary bi-folding designs can be folded away completely to remove the wall that separates your home from your garden allowing you to extend the living space of your home. What’s your budget? Taking on an extension project is a big commitment and you will need to be prepared going into it. Sticking to a budget is vital and there are other costs to consider than just the size of your extension. Any finishing touches such as flooring, doors and windows need to be accounted for, as well as the cost of any contractors who will be involved in the construction or planning. Do you need planning permission? It’s imperative that you check whether you require planning permission to build on your home. The size, height and location are areas that could be regulated and how your build might affect your neighbour’s property needs to be considered. What building materials should you use? This is an important consideration for design - will your extension incorporate the design of the rest of your home or do you want a complete contrast? Glass is an easy choice for most properties and is a popular design for many extension projects. Bi-fold doors are cool glass features that include thermal insulation and there is the option of installing solar control glass with Lite Haus bi-fold doors which can control the temperature of your room throughout the year. Do you need an expert? If you’re investing in an extension then you need to make sure you get it right, so consulting with an architect is a sure way to get the result you want. They can provide you with expert knowledge and create a detailed plan of what is and is not possible for your property. But architects will obviously come at a cost so make sure this is factored into your budget. Why choose Lite Haus UK Bifold Doors?

Are Bi-Fold Doors Right for Your Home?
Bi-fold doors were first introduced in a rudimentary form around 953 BC, but really started to grow in popularity in the 19th century. This was around the time where closets became common in many households. Many became attracted to the idea of having bi-fold doors as an alternative to the standard swing door. Bi-folds over the years have become more popular, as new fashionable styles were introduced. More recently they have once again risen out of the shadows and stepped back into the limelight, as many people are rediscovering their appeal. Although they are still used for small bedroom closets, bi-folding doors are more commonly used today on exterior applications. Bringing the outdoors into your homes has been the reason for this major shift in interest from the likes of French doors to bi-folds. The glazed doors have dominated the market for years now, folding back and creating a large opening. However, it seems with fashion ever changing, new ideas and designs are constantly being introduced and are challenging its supremacy. The more recent and latest look turns to sliding doors, which allow for larger expanses of glass and bigger views that are uninterrupted by frames. In terms of modern architecture, architects insist on an infinity look, which see's the doors level with the floor.
Bi-folding doors, Sliding doors or French Doors?
When looking for the right set of doors it can be difficult. With there being so much choice, how do you know which one is right for you? How to Care for Your Bifold Doors - A Few Handy Tips!
At Lite Haus UK we pride ourselves in providing customers with outstanding bi-fold doors. It’s amazing how extensively the addition of bi-folds can enhance your home; letting in light, enhancing space and somehow making a room feel bigger. Bi-fold doors are also low maintenance, so it doesn’t take much to keep them in full working order. However, there are some steps that you can take to keep your bi-folds in tip top condition.
How to clean bifold doors
Cleaning your bi-fold frame Experts agree that the best method for cleaning your durable bi-fold frame is to use water mixed with a mild detergent, such as washing up liquid. Sharp pads or brushes should not be used, as they may scratch the aluminium. A soft sponge or cloth should do the trick. As a general rule, more abrasive cleaners should be avoided too, in order to prevent damage to the frame. Cleaning the glass windows Cloudy weather is best for cleaning glass, as this prevents the sun from drying the surface too quickly, resulting in streaks. Traditionally, vinegar has been mixed with water for the purpose of cleaning windows, but some dislike the acidic smell that can linger. If using soap and water, try not to make it too soapy to prevent streaks. It’s best to use a soft sponge and take off any jewellery that could damage the glass. Cleaning and maintaining the tracks The bi-fold runners must be kept clean and free of obstacles in order to keep them running as they should. Remove any visible stones or pieces of debris. If not noticed, these can cause serious damage to your door’s runners. A vacuum cleaner nozzle should be able to deal with more general dirt. Some environments will mean more frequent cleaning of your bi-folds. For example, living by the sea will mean that salt can build up on the surfaces. All you have to do now is open up your home to the elements and let the light in.For more advice or a free quote, get in touch with Lite Haus UK today!
