  • Amendments - Contract

If alterations are required, these can be discussed over the phone, via e-mail or at our office. Once you are happy with your design, a contract detailing all products and projects requirements will be sent out for you to sign. At this stage, an approval document will also be produced which must be signed before your doors are manufactured.

Bifold Door FAQs

What are bifold doors?

Also known as a folding door, a bifold is a type of patio door that slides open by folding back in panels. It doesn’t swing open like a traditional sliding door or French door, instead it folds in one or more directions to create a full opening.

How much do bifold doors cost?

Our bespoke aluminium bifold door prices start from £1,597. Prices for models in our premium Schüco range start from £2,150. All external bi fold doors are fully customisable so you can choose the size, opening, colour and accessories to suit your home.

Are aluminium bifolds more expensive than UPVC doors?

Whereas it is generally cheaper to purchase UPVC bifolding doors, it may be more cost effective in the long run to choose a model made from aluminium. This is because aluminium is extremely durable and requires far less maintenance than UPVC. Aluminium bifold doors are also more customisable and are available in various colours and finishes, as well as featuring more space for glass. Lastly, thanks to polyamide thermal break technology, aluminium doors’ energy efficiency levels are now on par with UPVC, meaning you will have to spend less money when heating your home.

Are bifold doors secure?

You might be quick to assume that sliding patio systems and bifold door installations are not secure due to the amazing glass views they provide. However, thanks to double and triple glazing, multi-point locking systems, durable aluminium frames, lockable handles and intruder-resistant infills, our bifold doors are highly secure and will keep your family safe. Learn more about bifold door security features.

How long do aluminium bifolds last?

If treated correctly and properly cared for, aluminium bifold doors can last for 45-50 years. This makes them a worthwhile investment as they don’t need to be replaced as early as UPVC doors and you won’t need to worry about regular upkeep or maintenance. Aluminium is also a stronger material than UPVC, which helps to improve home security and gives you much greater peace of mind.

Do I need planning permission to install bifold doors?

If you’re not building an extension, bifold doors are usually considered a permitted development so planning permission is not required. You can always speak to local authorities about home improvement projects if you’re not sure about whether you need planning permission.

Which way do bifold doors open?

This will depend on the location of your bifold doors as you can choose either option to best suit the space available. Most homes suit the outward opening option as space can be limited indoors where there is a lot of furniture. Additionally, excess water from rain or condensation will drip outside when the doors are folded back. Read our guide to bifold door configurations for more information about your opening options.

Will bifold doors add value to my property?

Our customers install new folding doors for a wide range of reasons, whether they plan to sell their home or not. Our bifold doors are made from high quality aluminium and fitted with triple or double-glazed glass, so they are guaranteed to be long-lasting and thermally efficient. External folding doors are incredibly effective at improving the aesthetics of a home through modern design whilst creating better use of space and light in any sized room.
